For an anniversary

DIY Thoughtful Anniversary Gift

My FIL’s and Step Mil’s anniversary is coming up soon. Normally, I don’t know what to do for that kind of thing (other than a card). However, this time I actually had an idea! My Step MIL had bought these nice white ceramic pitchers for their wedding reception. At the end of the reception, she basically forced me to take one. TBH I have no use for it, we don’t normally drink anything other than water and coffee.

I was going to throw it out or give it away, but I thought it would look really nice as a decorative keepsake. If only it was just a little more decorative. So, I thought maybe I’ll just add some stuff to it. I had a lot of ideas but wasn’t sure exactly what to do. IDK… maybe a cute saying? Possibly the date of the wedding? Maybe I can get some of the other decorations from the wedding? Turning something from their wedding into a keepsake just seemed like a perfect idea!

I know there are companies that can do things like this, but this was something I knew that I could totally do myself! I have a ton of craft stuff and on top of that I had bought myself a craft cutting machine (that my husband caught an attitude about).
Anyway, their wedding theme was burlap, lace, and pearls. My step-MIL still has a majority of her décor from the wedding. To get some extra materials, I might have lied and told her that I was making a sign for my house, and that I needed some burlap and lace ?.

Their wedding theme is very similar to their house décor. Kind of like a simplistic(?) country style, white, wood, black, etc. so this should match their home perfectly! One of the things they love is Dr. Seuss’s book “Our Nest” so I wanted to incorporate that somehow. I figured I’d have something like ‘our nest’ along with the date of their wedding. On the back, I’d put their names and where they got married (which was in their front yard at the house they had built.) kind of like the establishment of their family. Here is a picture of it while it was a work progress:

For an anniversary: Pitcher with bow and lettering

Believe it or not but, the wording was the easiest part of this whole project. The actual decorating of the pitcher with the burlap placement was difficult. I didn’t know if I wanted to go with a band around the neck, or a bow on the neck, or maybe a bow on the top of the handle. Then I thought what if I wrap the handle in twine and then a burlap bow at the top?

I ended up with black lettering, a bow (made of burlap, lace, and pearls) with twine around the neck. Honestly, I’m not 100% sold on the twine, but I’m going to leave it. I really wanted to keep the design simple and not do too much. This was a fairly simple and easy project; I know it was definitely a learning experience. I can’t wait to wrap this up and bring it over to them! Here’s a look at the finished pitcher:
